ANIMALS

A N I M A L S
Most of my work is attached to furniture so I don't often get asked to make whole animals, but once in a while … and I relish the challenge when it comes. Getting a creature to join up all the way around is every bit as tricky as it looks.

Here's a selection of some that I've particularly enjoyed:
The collie, giraffe and the penguins have all been presents for my wife; the duck, owl and woodpecker are watching over the walled garden at Gleneagles Hotel along with the little snails; the fat frog on my stair case is one of the first things I ever carved … and the poor old puffin, forever gazing out to sea from a verandah on the Hebridean isle of Coll has been battered by the elements and repaired so many times that I fear a new generation may be needed soon.
