The 'Mann' bench was commissioned by Mrs. Mann as a surprise present to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.
Proud of their Yorkshire heritage and both passionate about cricket, Mrs. Mann's principal stipulation was that the bench should have a Yorkshire rose carved on it and could we do something 'crickety'.
After much clandestine discussion, the cricket theme developed to include both spouses playing the game together… tricky to catch a likeness on a face the size of a pinkie nail… and when I suggested the inclusion of some sort of written caption, Mrs. Mann unhesitatingly cried 'FORTY NOT OUT!', and so it is carved… in her own own handwriting.
