I've built quite a few beds over the years, a number of them with carvings, but nothing so detailed as this. It took a long time to make … but even longer to deliver, as it was completed just as the country was locked down with C19.
The patient couple who commissioned it wanted a Scottish pine forest complete with their favourite crested tits and crossbills and challenged me to carve cones and pine needles.
We included Beinn Alligin, of which they have fond family memories, and I added a capercaille because … how could you have a Caledonian forest without one?
