The 'Round The World' table was an adventure in itself. First it was a dream of a voyage, then it was a remarkable woman's journey around the globe, and finally, after many hours of planning and hundreds of hours of carving, it became this record of an extraordinary achievement.
The work recalls some of the client's experiences in the 'Round The World Clipper Race', a gruelling but thrilling test of skill and endurance … eleven months in some of the most challenging and beautiful oceans on the planet.
The arrangement of wildlife and the character of the piece is the result of long conversations about those experiences, the client's diary, and letters home from distant seas, and shows the creatures she saw and where they were found, from Liverpool to South America; Africa to Australia; China to America and back again. A once in a lifetime trip … and I hope, a table to match.
